On Friday night we started watching the camcorder tapes I took on our trip to Germany, Belgium, and Luxembourg this summer. I’d never seen any of this footage before. I’d played around with the shots I took on my Leica digital camera. I downloaded those every day as the trip progressed. But the camcorder tapes I merely stashed away in my handbag as I completed taking each one. I’m constantly amazed at the quality of the footage of the dedicated video camera as contrasted with the multi-tasking Leica digital camera with video capabilities. For instance the June day we visited Muenster Cathedral was gray and dark. My digital camera took gloomy pictures. But a screenshot taken of the camcorder footage produced a decent picture. I also hadn’t remembered that the camcorder had filmed the ruins of a castle on the hill just as we were starting down the Rhine River before we got to Remagen where we were to stay the night. Thanks to my camcorder tapes I’m making new discoveries about my trip though it was over two months ago.
