From Abilene to Weatherford: Texas Hill Country

With the Permian Basin just memory, we left Abilene in a pouring rain storm and headed east through the Texas Hill Country. There may have been supernatural touches in the Edward Ware Thriller Series, especially in regard to the devil-like villainess, Helga von Wessel, but after we went down a 6% grade near Strawn, Texas, we drove past a Ghost Town Museum reputed to be haunted. There couldn’t be very much else besides ghosts in this wide open, hilly country west of Forth Worth where we stopped for a chocolate dipped cone at a Dairy Queen. But the approach of the big city beckoned as we checked into the La Quinta in Weatherford at the end of the day. We were greeted by a patch of begonias to remind us that we’re back in the South. What else for dinner except fried chicken? The cat liked it, too. We even saw a Virginia license plate.
