Our European Tour: We Wore Dirty Clothes For 10 Days 9/1/12
We left the ship with clean clothes and planned to do laundry at various European motels. We even brought laundry packets in our luggage. But when we got to Potsdam, the bemused front desk clerk explained to us, “That’s impossible!” We didn’t stay at the hotel in Weimar that we thought might have a laundry. By Nuremberg we opted to send a few selected items to a valet laundry, hoping that nothing would be lost. It wasn’t until we finished with Salzburg and Munich and got back to Hamburg through Fulda that we at last boarded the ship with 10 days’ worth of filthy clothes that had been worn more than once — including the socks. We spent the first two days on the ship doing nothing except laundry.
Why don’t European hotels have guest laundries? Probably for the same reason they don’t serve ketchup at European McDonalds and Burger Kings. It’s impossible to determine.
