On The Autobahn The Shoulder Becomes Another Lane Of Traffic 9/24/12
On the autobahn going to Hamburg from the direction of the Hartz Mountains and Hannover the shoulder was being used by trucks as still another lane of traffic. I could hardly believe what I was seeing. This would never be legal on an American interstate highway. What if you ran out of gas? What if you broke down and needed a place to pull off the road? This is obviously not a safe practice. Why don’t they build another lane?
