The Queen Mary 2’s Weird Charging For Drinks Policy
Never could I have figured out by myself what drinks I would have to pay for on the Queen Mary 2 and what drinks were included with the meal. Even in the King’s Court on deck 7 all was not for free. When we went to La Piazza, The Carvery, or the Chef’s Galley the drinks that you served yourself from the machines were included but the bottles of Evian water or the soft drinks that the waitresses brought to you were extra. The Britannia Restaurant served hot tea, orange juice, even iced tea or lemonade as part of the meal, but again not water unless it was tap water. If you ordered a Coke, they charged you for that, too — just as they did if you ordered soft drinks on the room service menu.
If you went to Sir Samuel’s for breakfast on deck 3, even the hot tea incurred a charge, which never made any sense to me. Lots of people attempted to explain that drinks that came from the bar were charged extra. But why would hot tea come from a bar? For that matter, why would an Evian water come from a bar?
Don’t ask me. I was just a passenger. I didn’t set the policy.
