It’s Hard To Imagine How Cold It Is In Europe During The Summer 11/5/12
Coming from Tucson it’s almost impossible to imagine how chilly it is in Europe in the summer until you visit the place yourself. Temperatures in Tucson average in the 60’s in the winter time for highs. This is typical of summer-time temperatures in England and Germany when you don’t have a heat wave. When you do have a heat wave it can be in the low 80’s. That’s the kind of weather we get in Tucson in late March and April and again in late October and November. It’s not what we would associate with summer temperatures which here hover in the 100+ category.
Starting when we were on the North Atlantic we started to wear long slacks a lot. It was very foggy and even rainy. The south of England was just as rainy even on July 13. When we went ashore we had to bring black rain ponchos. And when we were in Weimar we wore long sleeves, a rain poncho, and long pants until the sun came out. It was like winter-time attire.
Only during the last two days of our trip in Germany before we boarded the ship in Hamburg did we experience 80 degree weather. The newspaper headlines trumpeted “It’s summer all over Germany!” but it was already July 23!”
