Sizzling Suspense and 100 Degree Heat: World War 2 Thriller Collection by Ken Follett
One hundred degree plus heat, camels dying, sweat, mirages in the desert evoke the atmosphere of the Sahara during World War 2 . . . “Searching for a lone tree in whose shade he could rest during the heat of the day” as the novel says. You feel as if you are there not knowing whether you will survive the sunrise and whether this sunset will be your last. This novel gives you an appreciation for what it must have been like to participated in either side in the conflict between Rommel and Montgomery and before that between Rommel and the Auk. I ought to be able to appreciate this atmosphere because I live in the American Southwest and I know how awful the summer heat can be. The author sounds as if he’s been there, too.
